Gorse Fires

We’ve had really dry weather recently and a huge spate of gorse fires with over 70 fires across the Omagh District and the Northern Ireland Fire Service receiving a record number of calls. It was particularly disturbing to see nesting birds flying low over the blackened areas and the green butterflys in the gorse hedges with flames racing up the hedges at the most amazing speed. Thankfully, we’ve now has some rain and the fires all seem to be out but the high level of what appears to be deliberate fire setting is really distressing.
